A Certification in AWS ranks among the top 3 IT skills in demand globally, including major technology markets. The growth in demand for certified talent across key domains (Security, Database, Analytics & Networking) validates the growth of in-demand skills. AWS’s certification framework is evolving, keeping in touch with the market realities. In fact, AWS Solutions Architect Associate has been listed among the top 10 roles/skills in 2019. Large adoption of the AWS cloud by businesses across industry groups translates into higher growth for Amazon’s cloud business precipitating an upward salary trend for professionals.

In the current report, we track the growth of certified professionals in the UK and link it to AWS’ strong business performance in recent years. In 2018-19, AWS was able to double its footprint in the UK and achieved revenues of GBP 850mn. According to our research ~40% of all cloud-related jobs were AWS jobs and more than 15,000 of them have been advertised in the past 6 months. An average salary of GBP65K and a growth of just over 4% translates into strong current demand for AWS skills. This has prompted Amazon to increase its investments substantially in creating a talent ecosystem to fuel its own growth and the growth of its global partners. AWS estimates that Kubernetes, Docker, Agile, DevOps and Python are the critical skills that teams want to hire in the near to medium term. While large enterprises are on a hiring spree, the small and medium businesses also form a substantial and growing part of the demand for professionals. AWS’ elaborate arrangement in terms of providing MOOC for its cloud computing content, partnerships with UK universities, and its large and growing network of certified professionals is going to play an important role in the demand-supply dynamic. Our report ends with a close look at the capabilities of some of the large global systems integrators in terms of installed talent, investments in CoEs, Labs, Innovation Centres, and their in-house skilling programs.

The AWS talent marketplace is an exciting place to be if you are tracking the demand, compensation, skills and talent strategy. We hope to bring out yet another report on the AWS talent space around specific themes. Till then, we hope you find our report useful.
