AI Adoption Index 2025: How Non-Tech Roles are Quietly Transforming
Between April and June 2025, The Tech Hiring Grid analyzed 68,000+ non-IT job postings across the US, identifying how Artificial Intelligence is making its way into industries, job titles, and regions that once seemed untouched by technology.
Our objective: to build an AI Adoption Index that tracks not only the number of AI-enabled roles but also their penetration across industries and geographies.
At Avance Consulting, we use proprietary methods and signals to track this shift — scanning job postings, filtering for non-IT functions, and identifying explicit AI references.
The AI Adoption Index is the outcome of this process: a benchmark that shows not only how often AI is now cited in non-tech job roles, but also how deeply it is spreading across industries, job categories, and regions.
In short, it measures how far AI has travelled from being a niche capability to becoming an essential part of mainstream work.
We focused on Industrial, Manufacturing Real estate, construction, and other Non Software Industries and specifically on non-IT jobs published across the United States during Q2 2025. Within these postings, we segmented jobs that explicitly mention AI-related skills, tools, or responsibilities.
This means:
The scope was deliberately narrow: not to measure the growth of AI as a technology sector, but to understand how non-tech industries are embedding AI into their workforce needs.
Our AI Adoption Index also tracked sector-level penetration:
AI- Enabled Job Share by Industry:
The insight is clear: even low-penetration industries are beginning to build AI fluency into their workforce. For leaders in these sectors, it’s no longer optional it’s preparation for the next competitive cycle.
When we analyzed job postings, certain titles stood out for their unexpected AI references:
What this tell us:
We already know that AI is being adapted massively by individual users to do their daily jobs, but enterprises and businesses are now explicitly mentioning that using AI as a skill is required in accounting teams, plant operations, field services and many more areas. Businesses are signalling that tomorrow’s workforce must combine traditional expertise with AI fluency.
This metric offers a clearer picture of the relative intensity of AI adoption, revealing that states are integrating AI into a significant portion of their non-IT workforce.
Highest Number of AI-Enabled Jobs (Q2 ’25):
AI Adoption Rates (Share of Jobs with AI Skills)
This dual lens shows that while California and New York dominate in volume, smaller states like Colorado and Massachusetts are adopting AI more intensively relative to their job markets.
As expected, traditional tech hubs remain active but the distribution tells a richer story.
Top 10 Cities for AI-Enabled Non-IT Jobs (Apr–Jun ’25):
Remote (United States) – 11.9%
Remote roles are also surging, with 692 postings listed simply as “United States.”
Interpretation: AI adoption is not just an urban-cluster phenomenon. Remote-first hiring shows how AI-enabled roles are becoming distributed and borderless.
At Avance consulting, we use proprietary methods and signals to track adoption patterns across non-tech industries.
For us at Avance Consulting, tracking these inflection points isn’t just about reporting — it’s about helping our partners recalibrate workforce strategy before shifts become shocks.
The adoption of AI across non-tech industries signals a fundamental redefinition of work. Just as robotics transformed manufacturing lines, AI is now transforming accounting, consulting, and operations.
At Avance Consulting, we believe businesses that anticipate these shifts early will be best positioned to thrive.
